June Bug!

Time has flown by and I realized that I haven't blogged for June. Now, its the middle of July, Ha! I have been so busy with Young Women's Camp and getting ready to move to Michigan that time has seriously caught the best of me. Sometimes that happens, I guess. Well I entitled this blog post June Bug, and for a very special reason. This month's pillow is dedicated to a very special family and very special cause. About year and a half ago, this family lost their youngest daughter and sister in a devastating car accident. To help her siblings cope with her passing, they attend a counseling center called The Sharing Place. To help give back for the loving care they have received, this family volunteered to help the center in their upcoming fundraising benefit and silent auction. In memory of this family's sweet little one, they will be putting together a "Lady Bug" themed basket, because she absolutely loved lady bugs... I received word regarding this fundraiser a couple of months ago and I too wanted to help this sweet family and center. I asked if I could donate a Pleated Pillow to their themed basket that will be up for auction this coming Fall. I was given the okay and I went to work.

I picked out a darling pillow with a leaf design and made an entire Lady Bug out of rosettes. I did make one mistake, however. I thought lady bug spots were white, but come to find out their spots are black, Ha! Silly me. You will see the two pictures, the one in the finished bag, is the completed pillow. This pillow was probably my favorite pillow to make, thus far. When I gave the pillow to this little girl's mom, she accepted the gift with tears in her eyes. My heart was filled with pure love for her and for the struggles that she has and is still overcoming. I will always remember this sweet family and their little Lady Bug!

The Mother's Day Collection

You know the saying "April showers bring May flowers" well that couldn't be more true. When I think of the month of May, so many things come to mind such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and flowers popping up right and left, but something sets May apart from all other months... Mothers! This is the month in which we honor Mothers and Motherhood. This is my second year as a Mother and let me tell you it has been such a blessing in my life. For those of you who are Mothers out there, know that being a Mom is probably the most challenging, but also the most fulfilling calling that you will, or ever have embarked upon. There is no greater calling in this life than being a Mother. The service, the sacrifice, the responsibility, the dependability, the constant teaching and learning, the ever growing lessons, the patience, the example, the faith, fortitude, and courage, etc.... are all encompassed in the pleasure and the joy of being a Mother. I know, like so many of you know, that we Mother's probably wouldn't be the people we are today, if it weren't for our own Mothers. I am so grateful to my Mother who has sacrificed so much of her life for me and my siblings. She is such an amazing woman. I look to her for so many things. She has always been there for me and continues to be here for me. She is always doing things for her children, whether it be spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.  She never stops, never, not once. I just want her to know how much I love and appreciate her. She is an incredible Lady. Thank you Mom!

Now to all of the Mom's in my life, Thank you to you as well. You all have significantly made an impact on my life and I will always cherish your love and friendships.

In honor of our Mothers in this lovely month of May, I decided to design a collection of pillows that to me reflects the softness and beauty of Motherhood. In this pillow I used a light blue base and some antique cream tulle that I twisted ever so carefully into one of my favorite flowers, the rose. To all of you Mothers out there and soon to be Mothers, may your Mother's Day be filled with joy and happiness. Also, take some time this Mother's Day to rest and relax on your favorite Pleated Pillow, YOU deserve it! Happy Mother's Day!

Spring Has Sprung!!

Spring is here, well hopefully! Mother Nature likes to play with us in Utah a little bit as far as the weather is concerned, but Spring Has Sprung for The Pleated Pillow. I hope you all enjoyed my lucky little "Irish" pillow. April is here and I thought it would be fun to kick off the month with some brighter colors such as Turquoise, Hot Pink, and a dash of Purple. I found these darling polka dotted, colored pillows at the near by boutique and I just had to take them home with me. I decided to play around with one of them and look what I came up with. There are such fun things you can do with a little bit of ribbon and bright tapestry. I have a really cute rocking bench that sits on my front porch and I think these pillows would be a nice touch for my bench and for welcoming Spring. If you have a fun place to put pillows and are in need of some unique flare to your home, please feel free to comment on your favorite pillows and I'd be happy to assist you. These pillows can go anywhere in your home and even outside of your home and trust me they WILL brighten your day!! So, be creative and maybe you too can enjoy a Pleated Pillow.

Welcome to The Pleated Pillow!

Hello Everyone! Welcome to The Pleated Pillow! I am so excited for this blog!! I started The Pleated Pillow because I absolutely love decorative/vintage throw pillows. Whenever I go into a furniture store or boutique, the first thing that catches my eye are the darling decorative accent pillows that are placed either on the couches, beds, or even cute benches. So... I thought a fun way to curb my craving for accent pillows was to start making them. Thus this blog was created. I will feature the pillows that I will design, whether it be for special occasions, holidays, or just in lieu of the season and post them on the blog. I won't tell you how I design or make them, that's my little secret, but if you enjoy what you see and you would like for me to make you one, then please feel free to give me a shout out and comment under the particular pillow that you want. I would love to make one for you.

This coming months Pleated Pillow features the holiday St. Patty's Day! Its decor is simple, yet unique and streaming the fantastic colors of pure green and white. Just perfect for spring! Being that a little Irish blood runs through me, I fell in love with this pillow, and had a fabulous time creating it. I hope you like what you see, even if it just brightens your day, as pillows do mine. Enjoy The Pleated Pillow!
